How Donated Vehicles Help the Homeless Homeless Long Island uses donated vehicles strictly for employment support and homelessness prevention, not for people living in cars. Working vehicles are provided to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness who have a job or are starting a new job. These vehicles are used to help individuals get to work, keep their current employment, start new employment, attend job interviews, and reach essential appointments. Vehicles are not used as shelter and are not intended for people living in cars. Non-working vehicles are sold for scrap metal. The proceeds are used to support all homeless individuals, regardless of how or where they are sheltered. Funds help pay for emergency assistance, outreach, transportation support, supplies, and other services that benefit the broader homeless community across Long Island. This vehicle donation program is focused on employment stability and homelessness prevention. All donations are managed with dignity, care, and transparency.
