Yes. We accept both working and non-working vehicles. Each vehicle is used in the way that creates the greatest benefit for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.

We have a list of rooms and shared rooms for rent in central Suffolk County. Upon request, we would be happy to provide our list to you.

You can report a homeless person to us in Nassau and Suffolk County by clicking on the link below. If you prefer, you can call us at (631) 260-1363. If you speak to them, the more information you get, the better we can find them and help them, You can even upload any pictures or videos to our website from the link below.

Do you accept donations?

Accepted Answer

Items needed are tents, tarps, sleeping bags, and non-perishable food items, and money. These items are always urgently needed. For pick up or drop off please feel free to reach out to us.  We will be happy to pick up your donations.

What does HLI need money for?

Most of the time we do not hand out cash to the homeless, there are on occasion exceptions to the rule. We still need money for many items and situations. Including but not limited to. Gas and vehicle upkeep for transporting the homeless to an array of places. bus fare, replace lost identification, hot meals, tents, tarps, and co pays for prescriptions.

We have 13 locations throughout Suffolk County where you can drop off your clothing donations.

I live out of NYS I need to come to Suffolk County Long island New York, How do I get into a Shelter?

If you are just moving to Suffolk County and you have no place to live and need a shelter, the department of Social Services will not help you. You will need to go homeless from an established address in Suffolk County long island before they will help you. There are other resources available for you please see our shelters page.
