Reincarnation: What Does the Bible Say About Reincarnation?

Updated: Mar 16, 2025

What Does the Bible Say About Reincarnation?

The Bible does not explicitly mention reincarnation, and the concept is not a part of traditional Christian doctrine. Instead, Christian teachings generally emphasize the belief in a single life followed by judgment, leading to eternal life in heaven or separation from God in hell.

Some passages that are often discussed in relation to this topic include:

3. Matthew 17:10-13 - In this passage, Jesus refers to John the Baptist as the "Elijah" who was to come, which some might interpret as a hint of reincarnation. However, traditional interpretations usually understand this as a fulfillment of prophecy rather than an endorsement of reincarnation.

While some individuals and groups may draw connections between biblical texts and the idea of reincarnation, mainstream Christian theology generally does not support this belief. Instead, it upholds the idea of resurrection and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
