HOW TO STAY WARM! Are you homeless in the winter time? What fluids you should drink and what should you avoid?

Staying hydrated and warm is crucial, especially during winter. Here are some recommendations for fluids you should drink and those you should avoid.

Fluids to Drink:

1. Warm Water: Drinking warm or hot water can help raise your body temperature and keep you hydrated.

2. Herbal Teas: Non-caffeinated herbal teas like chamomile, ginger, or peppermint can provide warmth and comfort.

3. Hot Broths: Broth-based soups are not only warm but also provide nutrients. Chicken, beef, or vegetable broth can be very beneficial.

4. Hot Chocolate: This can provide a comforting warmth and a small amount of calories.

Fluids to Avoid:

1. Caffeinated Beverages: Drinks like coffee and certain teas can lead to dehydration and may make you feel colder over time.

2. Alcohol: While it may initially make you feel warm, alcohol can actually lower your core body temperature and impair your ability to stay warm. 2a. The exception to the rule.

We understand that some have an alcohol problem, and need to drink. We highly recommend in this weather you go to a detox. if you will not go to a alcohol detox, there is one alcoholic drink you can drink in moderation that will keep you warm, and avoid withdrawal or seizures. That drink is brandy. All other alcohol drinks thin the blood, and in extreme weather, and that can be fatal.

3. Sugary Drinks: Sodas and other sugary beverages can lead to fluctuations in energy levels, which may affect your body’s ability to regulate temperature.

Why These Choices Matter:

- Warmth: Warm fluids help maintain your body temperature in cold conditions. They can provide immediate warmth and help your body fight off the cold.

- Hydration: Staying hydrated is crucial for your overall health, especially in winter when you might not feel thirsty. Dehydration can lead to fatigue and make it harder to stay warm.

- Nutrients: Broths and teas can provide some essential nutrients and electrolytes, which are important for keeping your body functioning well.
